Virginia Beach Public Library System

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my blog post.

The library that I would like to recognize is the
Virginia Beach Public Library VBPL system as a whole.

I live in the city of Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach is the most largely populated city in Virginia that has areas that are rural, suburban, and city like. It also a city that has many libraries. In fact, there are 11 locations including a joint-use library with Tidewater Community College, the Wahab Public Law Library, and a bookmobile for early literacy outreach. I made use of the bookmobile a lot when I was young. It would stop every two weeks at a park near my house.

All of the libraries in Virginia Beach are maintained under the same website. https://www.vbgov.com/government/departments/libraries/Pages/home.aspx Noone of them has its own independent website.

Anyone can visit any of the Virginia Beach Public Libraries but to obtain a library card to check out books and/or use library technology, one needs to be a Virginia Beach resident with proof of address and a valid picture ID card.

Each library has services and programs they offer. If you click on the link below, it will bring you to a page that allows patrons to choose any one Virginia Beach Libraries near them to see what activities and services they are offering. https://vbpl.librarymarket.com/
Services offered range from Storytime for Children to Beginner Internet, Microsoft, and HTML Classes to Teen Time: Movie and Crafts. Also, if anyone is looking for a particular book or books they can have a hold put on it/them and even have the book(s) sent to any of the library locations for easy pick-up.

All the libraries vary in size depending mainly on where they are located. The smallest is the Pungo-Blackwater Public Library
located in a more rural area of Virginia Beach with a smaller population and the largest of the libraries is the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library
located in what is considered downtown Virginia Beach and more highly populated. The Central Library, being the largest of all the Virginia Beach Public Libraries has the largest collection of hard copy books and technology available to its patrons.

Virginia Beach Public Library does not have a blog, but they do have Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and Instagram accounts. All of these SNS accounts include all of the libraries in Virginia Beach together. I think patrons would react positively is there was a blog for the libraries. Especially if there was an occasional blog about the more fun and entertaining activities offered.
